Osteo Philosophy
The art and practice of Osteopathy originated in the mid 1800’s by American physician Dr Andrew Taylor Still who was seeking to expand on the mainstream medical practices that were available during his time.
A.T Still was a pioneer of his time, he devoted his life to the study of anatomy and health, he developed treatments and a philosophy that continues to be ever present in Osteopathic teachings and backed up by modern day research and evidence.
Osteopaths view the body as “whole”. They take into account body, mind and spirit. They also recognise the vital importance and inter-relationship between structure and function.
Osteopathy is founded upon the deep understanding that the body possesses inherent self-healing and self- regulating mechanisms and that all treatment provided should be based upon these principles. It is the role of the Osteopath to help facilitate and support these innate healing processes.
